Celebrating Cedarfield’s Past, Present, and Future

Cedarfield is celebrating its 25 years of serving Richmond’s senior living needs with not only a variety of special events throughout the year for its residents, but also with the creation of a permanent history exhibit, designed by residents.

Cedarfield, a life plan community in Henrico County,  began in 1996 as the vision of the Virginia United Methodist Homes, now known as Pinnacle Living.  After several years of construction on its wooded, natural land just west of Richmond, the doors opened to residents in September and it has delivered on its promise of gracious living, high-quality service and exceptional care.

Throughout its 25th year, the residents, embracing Covid precautions,  began the year with an outdoor kick-off fall festival. A special socially distanced breakfast honored 16 residents and 13 team members who have been at Cedarfield since the doors opened in 1996.

To honor the future of Cedarfield, a grand opening celebration in April showcased the new household building combining a state-of-the-art physical spaces with a person-centered philosophy to engage residents in their daily lives while providing quality health care.

Residents and team members have been at the heart of the celebration.  A group has designed a Cedarfield Scholarship Program for team members, awarding five scholarships to team members in March. Funded through resident donations, the Scholarship Fund will be an enduring resource to help team members grow professionally through education.

Another group of residents committed to collecting and organizing 25 years of Cedarfield history and plans to unveil a permanent exhibit in August. The group, led by a resident with extensive museum exhibit experience, has not only looked at materials, but also how to integrate technology into their exhibit.

The final celebration in September will bring residents together for an outdoor, socially distant special event sponsored by Cedarfield’s valued vendor partners. A concert, special food and a variety of outdoor activities and entertainment will finish the year-long celebration of Cedarfield’s past, present and future.
