We highlight our Cedarfield value of Culture in October. We bring to life our value of Culture by lifting up the following: Affirming Resident Choice, Celebrate Home and Community, and Strengthen Body, Mind and Soul.
In most U.S. nursing homes, and in many assisted living communities, a very important element has been forgotten overtime: HOME. Without it, our elders experience a loss of joy, purpose, and meaning in their lives. We stand in admiration for those organizations who have paved a path forward for us and humbled to join this inspiring world-wide movement of eliminating “institution” from our Cedarfield community.
In our Neighborhood/Household Model, Cedarfield is adopting a person-centered approach that shapes the physical environment, organizational structure, and interpersonal relationships in ways that create an atmosphere of genuine home, while providing elders with clear opportunities to direct their own lives.
Cedarfield is becoming less compartmentalized with traditional departments (such as nursing, housekeeping, food services, activities, and social services). These “silos” are disappearing as our new organizational structure continues to emerge providing core “support services” in neighborhoods. This redesign makes the organization flatter and less hierarchical. Self-led working teams are arising that provide the framework for resident centered human habitats to flourish.
In a culture that typically views aging as a period of decline, the Cedarfield philosophy asserts that no matter how old we are or what challenges we live with, life is about continuing to grow. Building on this new paradigm, it affirms that care is not a one-way street, but rather a collaborative partnership.
